Want to get first hand Emergency Preparedness experience?!

Come to our Dispensing Drill this October!

MCDH and MCEMA is hosting a exercise to test our readiness for a public health emergency. In the event of a widespread disease outbreak, MCDH will dispense preventative antibiotics or vaccines to the public.

To make this exercise as real as possible, MCDH needs people to volunteer as “victims” during the mock outbreak.

« You will be asked to act as a “victim” and will have a script to follow

« You will go through the clinic process and receive simulated

     medication   (mints-YUM!)

Strategic National Stockpile

MCDH has been designated the lead agency responsible for requesting, managing, and distributing preventive medications during a large-scale natural or man-made public health emergency. If a public health emergency is great enough to deplete local supplies, MCDH may request medications from the Illinois Pharmaceutical Stockpile (IPS) and/or The Strategic National Stockpile (SNS).

The state would then deliver the medications and supplies to a predetermined and undisclosed site within McHenry County. The dispensing process may take place in phases:

·         First responders and critical infrastructure personnel may need to be protected first in order to maintain essential government functions

·         Based on disease surveillance data, MCDH would open Points of Dispensing (POD) at sites throughout the County. (Click here to see a list of POD Facts)
