Employee Benefits

 

This website will give you a summary of the many benefits offered to McHenry County employees.  Please be aware that all information on this page is subject to change without notice and not all benefits are offered to all employees.  If you are hired for a position with McHenry County, you will be notified at the new employee orientation what benefits you are eligible for.  This is not a guarantee of benefits. 

  

Medical and Dental Insurance

 

McHenry County offers employees two options for medical benefits, a HMO or a PPO plan.  Both insurance options are offered through BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois. For a summary sheet of our PPO plan that was effective July 1, 2012, and is effective until June 30, 2013, please click here.  For a summary sheet of our HMO plan that also was effective July 1, 2012, and is effective until June 30, 2013, please click here.  Both medical plans include a vision discount program offered through Davis Vision.

 

In addition to the medical plans, employees are also offered a dental plan.  The dental plan, like the health insurance plan, is offered through BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois.  For a summary sheet of the Dental plan effective July 1, 2012, and is effective until June 30, 2013, please click here

125 Plan

 

McHenry County employees that participate in the McHenry County Group Health Insurance Program do have the option to also participate in the 125 Plan.  The 125 Plan allows County employees to have their health insurance premiums deducted pre-tax. 

 

Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund

 

McHenry County employees that meet the qualifications are enrolled in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.  This is an excellent retirement benefit that also offers disability benefits and a death benefit.  Generally, an employee will contribute 4.5% of their gross wages, pre-tax, to their IMRF fund.  The County also contributes a portion.  Sheriff Deputy's contribute 7.5% of their gross wages.  For more information, visit IMRF's website at www.imrf.org

 

Nationwide Retirement Solutions

 

All employees have the option to enroll into the 457 Plan made available through Nationwide Retirement Solutions.  The 457 Plan is similar to a 401K plan.  Employees select the dollar amount they wish to have deducted from their paycheck, pretax and also decide how they would like their funds to be distributed.  The Nationwide Retirement Solutions representative normally offers a couple of seminars throughout the year to discuss retirement.  The representative also schedules days throughout the year for one-on-one appointments with employees.

 

Vacation and Sick Leave

 

Regular full-time and regular part-time employees are offered vacation time in order to provide opportunities for rest, relaxation and personal pursuits.  All vacation eligibility is computed based on the number of continuous years of service and the number of hours an employee is scheduled to work. 

 

Regular full-time and part-time employees are offered sick leave benefits to be used when the employee is incapacitated due to a non-work related illness, injury, or disability or to care for an ill/disabled immediate family member (as defined by the McHenry County Sick Leave Policy) and/or in conjunction with an approved family medical leave.  Similar to vacation time, sick leave is computed based on the number of continuous years of service and the number of hours an employee is scheduled to work.

 

Personal Days

 

Personal days are awarded to regular full time employees as established by the McHenry County Board.  Part time employees will be given personal days on a pro-rated basis.  Generally, employees are awarded two (2) or three (3) personal days each year.

 

Holidays

 

Regular full time and regular part time employees shall receive holidays with pay each year as established by Resolution of the McHenry County Board.  In 2012, the McHenry County Board approved 13 holidays.

 

Employee Assistance Program 

 

Advantage EAP is a confidential service offered to employees to provide interventions for all employees and family members who are in need.  These needs can vary from relationship difficulties, substance abuse, financial and legal issues, to lifestyle challenges.    

 

Family Medical Leave 

 

Employees of McHenry County are eligible for Family Medical Leave as long as they meet all the requirements as defined by the Family Medical Leave Act.  For more information about the Family Medical Leave Act please visit the Department of Labor's website http://www.dol.gov/whd/fmla/
