Flood Response – The Department of Planning and Development has been actively engaged in assisting the county and county residents in response to the April floods.  Staff monitored stream gage data and assisted with the mapping and analysis of areas impacted by flooding.  Staff assisted the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Federal Emergency Management Agency in conducting Preliminary Damage Assessments and Individual Assessments of impacted homes.

These assessments are essential for requesting state and federal funding for recovery.  In addition, the Department facilitated the County Board’s approval of a resolution waiving building and stormwater review, inspection, and permitting fees for property owners repairing flood damaged structures. Property owners have until December 31, 2013, to receive the fee waiver on permit applications.  For additional information on McHenry County’s response, click here.

Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) are maps which are prepared by FEMA that depict the Special Flood Hazard Area within a community.   These maps are available from FEMA a Division of U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Map Service Center.  Link to FEMA website.  Note:  Click option 4 to get FEMA issued Flood maps (index is last item on page 5).

Stormwater Commission 

The purpose of the McHenry County Stormwater Commission is to manage and mitigate the effects of development on stormwater drainage in McHenry County by enforcing a countywide Stormwater Management Ordinance that sets minimum standards for floodplain and stormwater management.
