Daniel J. Sedlock Jr.
Chief of Corrections
The McHenry County Adult Corrections Facility, built in 1991, took 22 months to build and cost approximately $14,500,000. The first and second floors of the facility are approximately 76,000 square feet in size and cost $11,500,000 to construct in 1991. When the facility was built in 1991 the third floor was added on for approximately $3,000,000 and was roughed in for future expansion.
In January of 2005, the facility began a $12,000,000 expansion and renovation project. This project completed the third floor, expanded the kitchen and laundry facilities, and renovated/expanded the Booking area. In addition the front of the facility was also constructed which contains a new lobby, Right’s Court Room, video visitation area, and administrative offices. A $6,500,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was received by McHenry County for construction costs. The third floor, which is approximately 45,000 square feet, was built out to house Federal ICE Detainees. The third floor opened in October of 2005, and the remaining construction was completed in the Spring of 2006. The facility now has a total of 651 beds.
The facility houses inmates awaiting trial in criminal cases, as well as those that have been sentenced to the County facility. An inmate can be held at the facility until they can post bond or are sentenced. After an inmate is sentenced, they can be detained at the County facility for 364 days. Anyone sentenced to more than 364 days would be taken to the Illinois Department of Corrections to serve their sentence.
Detainees/Inmates are allowed one (1), thirty (30) minute visit per week, on an available visiting day.
Detainees/Inmates may have up to two (2) visitors per visit, but visitors must be seventeen (17) years of age or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and have a government issued picture I.D. with proof of age or they will not be allowed to visit.
All visits will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
