MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Age: Reached their 21st birthday on or before the date of the written test. (exceptions may be granted)
Education: High school graduate or have a GED
Citizenship: Be a United States Citizen
License: Possess a valid driver's license
Residency: Residency required for take home squad car

REQUIREMENTS FOR ELIGIBILITY LIST:
Applicant must complete and receive a passing score on the physical ability test to sit for the written exam.
PHYSICAL ABILITY TEST - Based upon state mandated standards. The Physical Ability Test is conducted immediately preceding the written examination. Applicants must be dressed appropriately for participating in the Physical Ability Test. Applicants must wear gym shoes during the timed 1.5 mile run.

Applicants possessing a valid card from NIPSTA showing proof of passing the Physical Ability Test on: To Be Announced...may opt to waive out of the Physical Ability portion of the exam.
WRITTEN EXAMINATION - is based upon general knowledge. An applicant must complete and receive a passing score (70%) in each category.
WAIVER - Candidates currently employed as an enforcement officer and presenting a minimum of 400 hours proof of certification as a law enforcement officer meeting the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standard Board's standards or are graduates of the Illinois Police Corps or comparable program may have the written examination requirements waived by submitting a Waiver Request.

EACH OF THE ABOVE TESTS WILL BE ADMINISTERED ONLY ONCE.
After taking the written and fitness exams you will be notified in writing if you passed or failed. Applicants who passed will be placed on the eligibility list. The eligibility list expires in one (1) year unless extended by the Merit Commission.
After placement on the Eligibility List, an applicant must successfully complete any additional procedures as may be required by the Sheriff of McHenry County at his/her sole discretion (including, but not limited to; background investigation, physical examination, psychological examination, drug screening examination, lie detector (polygraph) examination, and criminal history check). The applicants on the Eligibility List are not ranked but are listed in alphabetical order. The Sheriff may hire any person on the Eligibilty List as he/she deems appropriate.
