The State’s Attorney’s Office has implemented the First Offender Program which allows first time non-violent felony offenders to keep convictions from their permanent records. An offender admitted to the program will be required to complete numerous conditions to successfully complete the program, which may include public service work, counseling, and the payment of fines and restitution. If the offender fails to complete the conditions, which are recommended by an independent citizen’s panel and the State’s Attorney’s Office, he or she will be terminated from the program and the case will be returned to court for prosecution.
