Information Session - McHenry County Workforce Network is the local administrator of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Programs focus are focused on Workforce Prep (ages 16-18), Entry Level Worker (ages 19-21), and Adult and Dislocated Worker participants who need assistance with employment and training options.

 

Workforce Prep - individuals aged 16-18 who meet eligibility guidelines*

Entry Level Workers - individuals aged 19-21 who meet eligibility guidelines*

Adults - individuals aged 18 and older who meet eligibility guidelines*

Dislocated Workers - individuals laid off or terminated due to plant closings, mass layoffs, and/or meet eligibility guidelines*


*Eligibility refers to WIA regulations, economic status, barriers to employment and dislocation information.

 

Information sessions cover all services available at the Workforce Center to assist in finding employment/career info, including WIA funded services such as:

 

In-depth assessment of aptitudes and skills.

Individualized career planning

Individualized employment counseling

Development of an individual employment plan

Career workshop

Training and re-training services

 

To apply for these services and to find out how you can benefit from these services, please attend the Information session. No appointment is necessary. Please arrive 10 minutes before the session begins to assure a seat; door closes promptly at 9:00 a.m. Every Thursday at the Workforce Center in Woodstock.

 

Job Club (Network to Success) Meetings - This meeting takes place the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month, with the purpose of providing a positive job search approach in a casual networking atmosphere. We may show videos, bring in speakers, or utilize the expertise of our staff. Our networking portion will allow participants to introduce themselves, network, discuss interviews and share job leads and tips with other members.

 

Resume / Portfolio / Interview Basics - Learn what information belongs in your resume and what you should leave out. Topics include a discussion of the chronological and functional resume, cover letter writing, and how to email a resume. Preparing a resume for email will also be discussed. Learn the fundamentals of interview preparation and how to make the best impression. Topics include researching companies and salaries, dressing for the interview, body language, typical interview questions, salary negotiation, and following up after the interview. This class is recommended prior to setting up an appointment for Perfect Interview.
