The McHenry County Historical Society was founded in 1963, and was incorporated November 26, 1963, not for profit, under the State of Illinois.
In 1998 the Illinois Association of Museums voted the McHenry County Historical Society Museum as the best small institution.
The Mission of the MCHS is to provide the methods and means of presenting McHenry County history to enrich life. Besides operating a museum, the Society also has a research library, plaques and preserves historic sites and structures, holds adult workshops and classes, makes available traveling exhibits and arranges a wide variety of school, scout and other group programs. The society also has a traveling local history museum bus available.

ADMISSION FEE - Adults $5.00; Senior Citizens and School Age Children $3.00; Members Free FAMILY RATE - (2 family member adults and 2 or more children) - $12.00

Incorporated in 1981, MCIGS is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization composed of family history researchers from all over the United States, Canada and Germany, many of whom have ancestry in McHenry County. Our purpose is to foster interest in genealogy and to provide instruction in methods and practices of family history research. We also wish to help in the preservation of early McHenry County records and make them available for public use.

The G.H.A. Historical Society was founded in 1977, from the committee which had collected and written Harvard's Bicentennial Book, Harvard, 1829-1976. There is a small museum located at 308 North Hart Boulevard, Harvard, IL and the G.H.A. Historical Society is also a member of the Illinois State Historical Society.
The purpose of the G.H.A. Historical Society is to retain our local historical identity and to bring as much of the sense of the local past as possible to our children. The G.H.A. Historical Society also researches historical questions, provides speakers for organizations and lists facts for inquirers. Officers |
