Mission: To provide leadership to ensure the prevention and treatment of mental illness, developmental disabilities and substance abuse by identifying, planning, coordinating, fostering development, and contracting for quality services for all citizens of McHenry County, Illinois.
MHB Operations: The MHB operates under the governmental body of McHenry County in the State of Illinois and is located at 620 Dakota Street in Crystal Lake. The facility includes a Community Resource Center that provides office and meeting space for several organizations, including NAMI McHenry County, Families ETC, and McCAP. Additionally, space is available for support groups, and expanded training rooms are accessible to agencies and community groups.
MHB Functions: The MHB does not provide direct treatment services. It does provide funding support and evaluations, and it manages more than $11 million of property tax funds specified for services mandated by Illinois statutes and reflected in its mission statement. This includes a comprehensive community service system with collaborative and financial relationships that include federal and state mental health and welfare agencies, and public and private agencies across the human service spectrum in this county and in surrounding counties.
The MHB is also responsible for trainings and community education opportunities, and it supports many community organizations that also hold trainings. Additionally, the MHB coordinates services, audits funded service agencies, and provides accreditation and IT supports.
