How Our Volunteers Help McHenry County
Volunteers help to fortify McHenry County’s ability to respond to terrorist activity, natural disasters, and public health emergencies. MRC volunteers also strengthen the overall health, well-being and emergency preparedness of the community by participating in McHenry County Department of Health activities throughout the year.
Volunteers also have the opportunity to participate in specialized teams such as Firefighter Rehabilitation, Heart Age Education and Animal Disaster Response. To volunteer for these teams specific training is provided. To view photos of the MRC in action click here!

History of the Medical Reserve Corps
After the tragic events of September 11th, thousands of citizens responded by volunteering to help in any way they could. To provide a framework for volunteers, President Bush launched the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) in 2002. While created nationally, the MRC is a network of local groups meeting the specific needs of their communities.
In McHenry County the MRC was founded in September 2003. As of 2014 there are approximately 995 MRC Units with 208,000 volunteers across the network of MRC Units.
